Commission Unveils New Medical Fee Services Calculator

On December 21, 2023, the Commission announced the release of a new Medical Fee Services (MFS) calculator. The calculator is currently in the testing phase and is slated to completely replace the old MFS Reference Tool in January 2024. Please note that the current MFS Reference Tool will only remain active until January 31, 2024.

The new MFS calculator is intended to be a more convenient and efficient tool to determine regional classifications and maximum rates of payment, with the ability to adjust for certain modifiers. To use the calculator, the following information must be known: the Jurisdictional Claim Number (JCN), zip code for the place of service, date of service, and billing code. Certain treatment may require additional information such as inpatient bills with will require the admission and discharge dates (and sometimes time) and anesthesia services which will require start and end times.

In addition, the Commission has announced what changes will be incorporated into the 2024 Medical Fee Schedule. The maximum fees for codes included on the 2022 fee schedule have been increased by 6.5% to account for two years of medical inflation. In addition, the 2024 fee schedule removes retired CPT/HCPCS codes and introduces the addition of 2022 and 2023 codes that have been cross walked from a previously active code.
